Detective Show X, Aachen
Detektive Show X is an open-air exhibition where visitors can discover art in public space across two adjacent parks in Aachen – or Aix-la-Chapelle, as the city is called in French – by following clues.
A digital and printed map will list location hints, numbers, and artist names (but no photos) to create a self-guided route to the works on site.
The exhibition combines existing and new urban art, temporary and permanent works, spontaneous and planned interventions – offering a fresh perspective on the urban space.
The inspiration for Detektive Show X comes from a legendary event: in 1978, US artist John Fekner organized the “Detective Show” in Gorman Park, Queens, New York.
Around 30 artists had created works on site in advance, which visitors could find using a list of artist names, numbers, and locations.
But Aachen also has its own tradition: as early as 1973, the city hosted its first open-air exhibition – proof that some ideas never grow old.
