Daniel Weissbach (b. 1976, Berlin, DE \u2013 d. 2020, DE) receives his fourth \u2013 and first posthumous \u2013 solo exhibition Stellen at Ruttkowski;68, D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n
Excerpts and details of real places form a central point of reference in Weissbach\u2019s \u0153uvre. In the isolation of these places from their original context, in their appropriation and transformation into new contexts of meaning, worldly conditions and limitations shift and create layers of time between the present and past. The permanence of change and the continuity of history can be found in the frozen moments, in the places that elude the dissolution of collected traces.<\/p>\n
Through the series of works, the geometric grid of tiled walls at transit points of our present, the zones of transition and everyday encounters are distorted, alienated and made available for the ambivalence of the indeterminate. Their successive abstraction turns the joints into lines, the lines into Weissbach\u2019s unmistakable visual language. They function like a body that preserves the past, being both visibly and invisibly inscribed.<\/p>\n
For their traces in the present, Weissbach developed multimedia languages, forms of expression and identities that run through his entire body of work. In addition to this exhibition, which will be shown in D\u00fcsseldorf, Paris and New York, a book with previously unpublished insights into his world of ideas has been published, allowing for the impact and value of his artistic legacy to live on.<\/p>\n
