Festival des arts de rue de Tameslohte

, by Bart Van Kersavond

Via Facebook I came across the “Festival des arts de rue de Tameslohte“. Unfortunately I missed the 2nd edition by a few weeks, but I still wanted to meet the organizers and see the works from 2018.

Tameslohte is a big village on the edge of the Agafay desert, about 35 km outside of Marrakech. A trip with the scooter, but nevertheless well feasible. Already while approaching the village I saw the first building painted by Hicham Bellaghzahl, very colorful. If you drive further into the centre, you will be greeted by two large murals. When I found the works of L’Espiegle and Majid Elbahar in this village, it just knocked me over. Both showed a Moroccan figure that fits perfectly in the surroundings. In the village there are also more pictures to see, among others by Abdo Mchimich and Grocco. Other works were created in collaboration with local schools.

The festival was organized on a voluntary basis in 2018 and a great program was put together for it: besides street art, there were theatre events, music etc. You can see that this festival is a positive stamp for the village. In any case, the video gives a good insight and it seems as if the village was upside down for a week. I already mark this festival for 2020 in red in my calendar!
